# CapitalBench portfolio-v3.0 Task
You are participating in an offline, time-resolved CapitalBench evaluation round. Every model receives the same frozen information and makes one single-turn, non-agentic judgment without tools, browsing, retrieval, or follow-up.
Your objective is to rank assets for realized return over exactly one week and identify candidates that can beat SPY. CapitalBench, not you, constructs the scored portfolio from your judgment using the fixed rule below.
The deterministic candidate slate exists to prevent omission; it is not a recommendation. Assess every slate candidate. You may add at most two wildcard options from the complete allowed universe, but only when the frozen briefing supplies a specific reason the mechanical slate missed.
Use only facts and mechanical market data supplied in this input. You may use internal learned knowledge and general priors, but do not intentionally rely on facts, prices, news, or events after the research cutoff. Treat section order, mention count, option order, table order, and slate inclusion as neutral presentation choices rather than recommendation signals.
Do not extrapolate recent returns mechanically. A recent winner has no positive edge without independent in-window support. Give extreme recent losers a fair reversal test, but distinguish temporary price overreaction from fundamental deterioration. Use the supplied cross-sectional dispersion, medium-horizon relative strength, volatility, drawdown, volume, briefing evidence, and quality evidence. Optimize for the stated close-to-close scoring window only.
For every assessed candidate, provide probabilities and an 80% excess-return range relative to SPY. Rank every assessment without ties. top3_option_ids must be the options ranked 1, 2, and 3. prefer_spy is a diagnostic judgment and does not override the deterministic rule.
CapitalBench applies this rule after your response:
1. Preserve your candidate ranks.
2. A non-SPY candidate is eligible only when you label its recent return as overreaction and give it at least a 55% probability of beating SPY.
3. Select at most the first three eligible candidates in your rank order.
4. Fill fixed portfolio slots of 35%, 35%, and 30% in that order.
5. Put every unused slot in SPY.
You do not submit allocations or an alternative portfolio. Return only valid JSON. Do not include markdown, citations, prose, or commentary outside the JSON.

Top three are strong prior-trend tech groups whose recent underperformance looks like a temporary rotation rather than deterioration; falling yields and the in-window Nvidia catalyst give an independent path to a rebound versus SPY.
5-session active dispersion of 5.1% is elevated with equal-weight beating SPY by 1.1% and yields falling (10y 4.63% from 4.74%), a setup favoring pullback reversals in previously strong high-beta tech ahead of Nvidia earnings on Aug 26 within the window.
- Cybersecurity (CIBR): 35% - V3 selected model rank 1: overreaction with 60% estimated probability of beating SPY.
- Autonomous Technology and Robotics (ARKQ): 35% - V3 selected model rank 2: overreaction with 58% estimated probability of beating SPY.
- Software (IGV): 30% - V3 selected model rank 3: overreaction with 57% estimated probability of beating SPY.
- Nvidia earnings miss on Aug 26 could hit all three tech-cluster picks simultaneously
- Jackson Hole commentary could push yields back up, pressuring high-beta growth
- Crypto and metals momentum could extend, making pullback tech picks lag
- Weak labor data (payrolls -23k) may signal broader growth deterioration hurting cyclical tech demand

Ranked judgment favors high-quality relative pullbacks over stretched momentum. Cybersecurity, Software and Aerospace/Defense all combine strong or neutral prior relative trends with sharp one-week relative flushes and no supplied fundamental deterioration, giving the cleanest mean-reversion setups into a catalyst-dense week. Crypto and metals-mining are downgraded because their recent gains are extreme, high-volatility extensions with poor quality evidence, and oil and energy face confirmed price weakness rather than temporary dislocation.
Broad market is near highs with breadth improving (RSP beat SPY by 1.1% over 5 sessions) while mega-cap tech lagged into the Nvidia print. Yields fell to 4.63%, gold and silver surged, oil dropped sharply on weak Brent. The week contains Nvidia earnings, Jackson Hole, payroll benchmark revisions, JOLTS and the Beige Book, so idiosyncratic dispersion is elevated but no single directional macro regime dominates. Quality-pullback names with strong prior relative trends and shallow recent underperformance offer the cleanest one-week reversal setups; crypto after a 22-29% active spike is stretched, not a fresh entry.
- Cybersecurity (CIBR): 35% - V3 selected model rank 1: overreaction with 58% estimated probability of beating SPY.
- Software (IGV): 35% - V3 selected model rank 2: overreaction with 56% estimated probability of beating SPY.
- Aerospace and Defense (ITA): 30% - V3 selected model rank 3: overreaction with 55% estimated probability of beating SPY.
- Nvidia's August 26 report could drive a sharp directional move in tech-heavy candidates including cybersecurity, software and robotics.
- Jackson Hole commentary or the August 28 payroll benchmark revisions could reprice rates and reverse the recent yield decline.
- Relative pullbacks in defense and cybersecurity may reflect information not present in the briefing and continue rather than revert.
- Precious-metals and crypto momentum could persist, causing selected reversal names to underperform SPY on a relative basis.
- One-week horizon leaves little time for mean reversion to complete, and high-volatility candidates can miss on noise alone.

Crypto and metals-mining are downgraded because their recent gains are extreme, high-volatility extensions with poor quality evidence, and oil and energy face confirmed price weakness rather than temporary dislocation.",
"provider": "anthropic",
"rationale_summary": "Broad market is near highs with breadth improving (RSP beat SPY by 1.1% over 5 sessions) while mega-cap tech lagged into the Nvidia print. Quality-pullback names with strong prior relative trends and shallow recent underperformance offer the cleanest one-week reversal setups; crypto after a 22-29% active spike is stretched, not a fresh entry.",

The leading candidates pair strong medium-horizon relative strength with recent pullbacks that appear disproportionate to the supplied evidence. Cybersecurity has the cleanest quality-backed reversal profile, energy offers a less volatile way to fade the oil-driven selloff, and autonomous robotics adds a technology rebound candidate ahead of a major in-window earnings catalyst.
Broad participation and falling Treasury yields support risk assets, but 5.10% cross-sectional dispersion, Nvidia earnings, Jackson Hole, and several macro releases create a highly event-driven week. Selective reversals in strong prior trends have better support than chasing recent commodity or crypto surges.
- Cybersecurity (CIBR): 35% - V3 selected model rank 1: overreaction with 59% estimated probability of beating SPY.
- Energy Sector (XLE): 35% - V3 selected model rank 2: overreaction with 57% estimated probability of beating SPY.
- Autonomous Technology and Robotics (ARKQ): 30% - V3 selected model rank 3: overreaction with 55% estimated probability of beating SPY.
- Nvidia results could trigger a broad technology selloff and invalidate the robotics and cybersecurity reversals.
- Jackson Hole communication or inflation data could push yields higher despite their recent decline.
- A further crude-price decline could overwhelm energy-equity relative strength.
- High cross-sectional dispersion makes one-week rankings unusually sensitive to event surprises.

Prefer quality pullbacks with independent prior strength (CIBR, ARKQ, XLE) over extended crypto/metals winners or high-vol oil; only mild edges vs SPY near highs, so benchmark remains competitive if reversals fail.
SPY near highs with modest weekly gain; soft labor/housing/confidence data and falling yields support selective quality pullbacks, while oil shock and crypto volume spikes create mixed continuation vs reversal setups into Nvidia and Jackson Hole.
- Cybersecurity (CIBR): 35% - V3 selected model rank 1: overreaction with 62% estimated probability of beating SPY.
- Autonomous Technology and Robotics (ARKQ): 35% - V3 selected model rank 2: overreaction with 58% estimated probability of beating SPY.
- Energy Sector (XLE): 30% - V3 selected model rank 3: overreaction with 56% estimated probability of beating SPY.
- Nvidia earnings Aug 26 can reverse tech/growth pullback theses including CIBR and ARKQ
- Jackson Hole and soft macro prints may drive risk-off that hits high-beta names harder than SPY
- Further crude weakness or inventory surprise can pressure ENERGY/OIL without mean reversion
- Crypto volume spikes can unwind quickly, contaminating risk appetite for growth factors

One-week edge is a modest mean-reversion in quality pullbacks (cyber, aerospace/defense, energy) after 5s underperformance, not crypto or metals continuation. High event density and SPY proximity to highs keep most candidates near coin-flip versus the benchmark.
SPY is near a 52-week high with modest 5-session weakness while 5s active-return dispersion is 5.10% and equal-weight led cap-weight. The slate mixes shock pullbacks in quality growth/defense/energy against stretched crypto and metals continuation, with Jackson Hole, GDP/PCE, oil inventories, and Nvidia results inside the week.
- Cybersecurity (CIBR): 35% - V3 selected model rank 1: overreaction with 58% estimated probability of beating SPY.
- Aerospace and Defense (ITA): 35% - V3 selected model rank 2: overreaction with 56% estimated probability of beating SPY.
- Energy Sector (XLE): 30% - V3 selected model rank 3: overreaction with 55% estimated probability of beating SPY.
- Nvidia earnings after the Aug 26 close can dominate high-beta software, robotics, and cyber versus SPY.
- Jackson Hole plus Aug 26 GDP/PCE can reverse rate-sensitive banks and duration-linked defensives.
- Further crude weakness after Brent -3.6% and the petroleum status report can keep ENERGY/OIL lagging.
- 5s dispersion of 5.10% and stretched crypto volume z-scores raise gap/whipsaw risk in any non-SPY sleeve.
